Purpose: This paper proposes a conceptual framework of individual innovation capability (IIC) to guide future measurement development and empirical validation.
Methodology/Approach: An integrative review combined eight Scopus searches and relevant foundational literature. The resulting 44-study corpus was coded across 25 attributes and synthesised through construct-boundary clarification, dimension mapping, conceptual positioning, and relationship mapping.
Findings: IIC is placed between personal innovation resources and innovative work behaviour (IWB), and represented through six candidate capability domains: opportunity exploration, idea generation, idea development, idea mobilisation, idea realisation, and idea sustainment. Organisational and technological conditions are proposed to shape capability development and behavioural enactment.
Research Limitation/Implication: The framework requires operationalisation and empirical validation of its dimensionality, discriminant validity, measurement invariance, and predictive relationships with IWB and innovation outputs.
Originality/Value of paper: The framework distinguishes what employees possess, what they can do, and what they enact at work, providing a conceptual basis for future IIC measurement development.
